"NKato" (NKato)

I ain’t saying what the security feature is. But it exists. That aside, I’ve taken the time to clean up the car considerably, so there’s no debris on the interior now, and had the floor swapped with one from another car . I also had the steering wheel swapped — my friend took care of it for me.
Now, the question that bothers me is this: I’m seriously considering chroming my pushbars and fender guards. But this will clash with the chrome grille I have on the car. Should I swap the grille back to the black honeycomb? I also have a chrome spotlight on the way to replace the black one, and plan to replace the rear fascia and taillights with chrome trim versions.
Ultimately, for reference, first the picture of the day I bought the car, with the pushbar and fender guards already equipped. Now imagine them chromed, with the rubber strips still black.
Now throw this paint job onto it:
Do you think the final version will look good? Black on
Chrome, on Black paint, on Silver?
The goal is to aim for a throwback to the 90's kind of deal with the looks.

I think it looks much better as-is without the chrome, not that there is a right or wrong answer.

I really like the paint job on the final version, but don’t think it would look nearly as good with chrome accents as it does with (mostly) black

The reason why I’m interested in the chrome, is because it’ll contrast well with the black paint on the lower half of the car, and it would also serve as a callback to the 1980's and 90's.
I want it to
look
kind of like a cop car, yet not like any cop car on the street. An actual homage to police vehicles.

Pretty sure an homage would just be what it looks like and not chroming it up.

Subdued colors is a popular scheme today in the 21st century, but we’re talking about something that calls back to the 20th. :) With the fender guards in chrome, it would have a passing resemblance to a cruiser like this:

Probably. I’m still on the fence! lol...once I get the fender and header panel replaced and painted to match the rest of the car, which I’m hoping to try and get out of the way by the late summer (it’s expected to cost me about $1,000 - including brand new left front fender and professional paint service), I’m going to take the old bumper cover off, paint it in black with rattle-can paint, and then throw the pushbars and fender guards on to see how it looks.
If black-on-black feels wrong to me, I’ll probably rattle-can a color-matched Silver Birch Metallic paint on it. If it doesn’t work, we’ll go chrome. This process shouldn’t be expensive. :P
Edit:
But it would be wonderful if I could just find someone who could repaint the original photo to match my vision and work from there.

Is the safety feature a manual swap?

But you do have a point, AiM. I’m going to consider your thoughts on this. I do like the two-tone approach, but I’m not sure how it would stack up against the other concept.

Have you had something chromed before? You may find it to be price prohibitive. Maybe think about a nice body-color respray. That could look classy without being gaudy.

Had that before the accident:
It looks okay, so-so ish. I’m not fully committed to it yet, but I have come up with a work process to settle on something.

That steering wheel looks great. Nice simple mod.
Id go black no chrome.
